As a human being you have a natural instinct to protect yourself from harm. Your brain, through sight and hearing, stays alert to anything or situation that may be harmful. With exposure to stress, trauma and feeling unsafe, your nervous system can become somewhat stuck in protection and survival mode, even if there is no real threat.
Holistic modalities have the common understanding that the mind, body and spirit interact with each other and are integrally linked in our sense of well-being. All aspects of your being work in partnership for your highest good.
You will see the term “holistic approach” all over my website, social media and blogs. It is the approach I take to all of the sessions I offer and how they may impact you on the day that you’re receiving them.
Having practiced Craniosacral Therapy for 27+ years, clients have told me of results as individual as they are, some surprising. What I have noticed is a predominant response to easing pain and emotional distress.
As a Massage Therapist I use to turn to Massage first when a client came to their session with pain, and only apply Craniosacral Therapy if, after a few sessions, the client was not responding. Clients were and are often amazed that a treatment that is so gentle, in the end actually brings them the ease they seek.
During a Craniosacral Therapy session there is a Stillpoint. A small measure of time where the Nervous System becomes still, the flow of Cerebral Spinal Fluid is slow and steady, the body is quiet, and I wait. How long do I hold the Stillpoint? Until the client's response tells me to move on.
During December your self care may be put aside to deal with the busyness of the season, but with the colder weather and increased stress of the holidays you need more self care to ease your body, mind and spirit through to January.
Physically the colder weather has an impact on your movement, muscles and joints. In order to maintain a constant core temperature the body may lessen circulation to extremities which can leave them feeling stiff, sore, cold and less mobile. OR, you may be using different muscle groups as you shovel snow or adjust your walking gait to avoid slipping. Even the skin is impacted by colder weather and can often need extra hydration.
What does it mean to harvest holistic health?
The awareness of connection of how you function as a whole being is often brought to light during a Massage. Clients will often notice that releasing muscle tension in one area has an impact on other muscles. It's always rewarding when they realize that they are not just a collection of parts.
When you are experiencing long term, unrelenting and constant stress the result can be what is called "Burn Out". Burnout is a state of complete physical, mental and emotional exhaustion.

We had the most interesting experience yesterday, a client and I. During a Craniosacral Therapy session my client displayed, in real time, a response from the Vagus Nerve. It was pretty amazing to be a part of!
Stress in it's chronic or acute stages can be debilitating to mind, body and spirit. The changes it creates in the body can lead to emotional responses of depression and anxiety.
