Mindfulness

Clients have heard me say this often after their sessions with me, especially after Massage. The main reason behind this "after session" advice is that it extends the benefits of their session after they return home. But there's more...
As a human being you have a natural instinct to protect yourself from harm. Your brain, through sight and hearing, stays alert to anything or situation that may be harmful. With exposure to stress, trauma and feeling unsafe, your nervous system can become somewhat stuck in protection and survival mode, even if there is no real threat. As a business owner it is really helpful to look back at the numbers from the past year to see where things have improved and where they may need some adjusting. As a Holistic Health Practitioner, while numbers are important, I look more closely at what clients mentioned the most in what was going on for them and which therapies they said were the most helpful. It's always interesting. It also often means that the numbers experiencing those issues are likely higher...you don't tell me everything, neither do you need to. While my previous blog (click here) describes my holistic approach to your sessions, it doesn't include the most important part - meeting you where you are. I understand that each person has their own view of what is holistically healthy for them. What holistic health means to you will be unique to your understanding and how you choose to implement it in your life journey. Your view will be as unique as you are. Taking time to assess what you need to let go of is not, I don’t think, as difficult as the steps to actually letting go. Life can become mired in old ways of doing things or holding onto items because you’ve had them for years, in other words, stagnation. Through following old beliefs or staying in relationships that no longer serve you, the journey forward becomes stuck. To recognize and assess what you need to let go of is a journey in itself. To take the steps to actually let go can be scary. Having practiced Craniosacral Therapy for 27+ years, clients have told me of results as individual as they are, some surprising. What I have noticed is a predominant response to easing pain and emotional distress. As a Massage Therapist I use to turn to Massage first when a client came to their session with pain, and only apply Craniosacral Therapy if, after a few sessions, the client was not responding. Clients were and are often amazed that a treatment that is so gentle, in the end actually brings them the ease they seek. Shared with client's permission.
We had the most interesting experience yesterday, a client and I. During a Craniosacral Therapy session my client displayed, in real time, a response from the Vagus Nerve. It was pretty amazing to be a part of! ~ even if you haven't had Covid-19. I have noticed that the pandemic we are in, and have been for three years, has shown visible symptoms in every client that I've seen through that time. Regardless of occupation, age, beliefs, etc. many are exhibiting the symptoms of PTSD and Chronic Stress. Yes, it is more intense with those clients in Healthcare and the Teaching professions, however it has been obvious in everyone. This past week I had the opportunity to participate in 2 workshops for enhancing Craniosacral Therapy outcomes for clients. While there was a lot of fascinating information shared one topic that stood out to me was the role of Craniosacral Therapy in gently releasing muscular restrictions in the body, versus Deep Tissue Massage where that release is forced, through pressure.
