While my previous blog (click here) describes my holistic approach to your sessions, it doesn't include the most important part - meeting you where you are. I understand that each person has their own view of what is holistically healthy for them. What holistic health means to you will be unique to your understanding and how you choose to implement it in your life journey. Your view will be as unique as you are. A large part of my profession involves observing and listening. Listening to your story, why you have booked in to see me, what you are hoping to achieve with your sessions, how you would like me to facilitate on your journey. While you may have given me a clue when completing your health intake form, there is so much more to be shared in personal communication than can be related in filling out a form. While you may be here for your appointment due to stress, you don't actually have to tell me what is stressing you out. It's much more important that you let me know how it is affecting you, physically and emotionally, that day. Those are the best clues for ensuring your session is personalized to you. Even with that said, through observation, I can see how you're moving and if it's hurting to move. It's likely that stress, pain, aches, depression, trauma... are showing in your eyes, face and/or posture. Through discussion you often provide small hints about your lifestyle and free time. All of this is helpful. For example: If you're a single mother of 3, working full time, then my suggesting lengthy and time consuming activities for after care are a waste of time. You likely don't have the time or energy. Understanding that each person's healing journey is unique and will take whatever length of time you need, is essential. I meet you where you are with no expectations, no judgements and no agenda. I listen, I observe and we talk. Through these forms of communication we can determine the best paths moving forward (there is always more than one path). Through ongoing communication, as the layers of the healing onion begin to unravel, the path of your journey is likely to shift, many times...or it may not. Your healing path will be unique to you and each time you come in for a session I am prepared to meet you where you are, that day.
