Policy for Treating Minor Children
As a member of a professional association I am required to keep the following policies when it comes to the treatment of minor children. In the province of BC a minor child means under 19 years of age.
When treating a minor, the signed consent must be signed by the minor's parent or legal representative.
Policy for treating minors:
In the interest of clear communication, I have a Minor Consent Form that clearly explains my policies. For each session I will have the parent/guardian sign the form, confirming that you give me permission to go ahead in providing a session for your minor child.
Policy for treating minors:
- Written consent from the parent/guardian (informed consent forwarded by email)
- A parent/guardian must be present while completing, or complete the Health Intake form.
- In establishing goals for each session both the minor and the parent/guardian must be present. This discussion will include:
- health history
- current symptoms experienced by the minor
- treatment methods and techniques to be used
- areas of the body that will be treated
- level of undress
- appropriate draping
- Possible treatment effects
- For older minors (15+), the practitioner, client, and parent/guardian will discuss if the parent/guardian will wait outside the session room, or in the room, during the session. The parent/guardian must stay present in the building. It is not an option to drop your minor child off, and leave.
- For minors under 15 the parent/guardian is required to stay in the room during the session.
