We had the most interesting experience yesterday, a client and I. During a Craniosacral Therapy session my client displayed, in real time, a response from the Vagus Nerve. It was pretty amazing to be a part of!
In recent Craniosacral sessions pain reduction has been the goal with good success, however this time the body went further with the session than it had in the past.
As I held the client's head in specific Craniosacral holds I watched as the stomach appeared to fill up (bloat) and a few minutes later release. Then the client began to bring air up from the abdomen, needing to burp, and felt sensation in the area of the esophagus. She also seemed quite restless on the massage table where in past sessions had been very relaxed. The need to burp and release air carried on throughout the second half hour of the session.
This is a client who says she holds her stress in her stomach and with a trip overseas coming up, was feeling apprehensive and stressed. Her stomach had been upset in the days before she came for her session. Her body showed this to both of us in its response to the Craniosacral Therapy session.
Her symptoms continued for about 10 minutes after her session ended and then calmed completely. Recent pictures from her trip show a happy and relaxed traveler.
Often in Holistic Health therapies the body and/or the mind will bring things up for us to look at (just to make sure that we're aware) and then it will release and allow a re-set on the path to healing. Craniosacral Therapy encourages the body and the brain to rest and reset itself. It’s often a lot more subtle than it was today!
My work is always fascinating!
