I have to look no further than client responses to their sessions to reaffirm my belief. Over the past 32 years I’ve seen a lot of people on my table and there are so many diverse viewpoints as to how people see their body, their levels of body awareness, and how they care for their bodies. A common denominator is that those that partner with their body, listen to it, respond to what their body is telling them, always have better outcomes. They are the people that often drop off my appointment schedule because the reason they were coming to see me has been resolved. Listening to your body is a big part of a successful Craniosacral Therapy session. I find myself wishing that I didn’t have to have clients fill out Health Intake forms in advance, but instead could just get quiet and listen in to what their body is saying about what is going on. The movement or not of subtle rhythms, the areas that are showing me tensions or ease in the fascia, where joints and bones are not quite sitting as they should and the body is unable to get comfortable… (but I do have to have the Health Intake Forms and Consent forms in advance and yes, I always read them over) Part of listening in to where your body is showing tensions is that it often will show me the origins of a problem, not necessarily where you are feeling it. Tight muscles and fascia will pull on other areas that are connected and those other areas are where you may be feeling pain or discomfort or that your nervous system is in overdrive. I can work on the area that you are feeling pain, but you will have longer term ease and results if I instead, go to the areas that your body shows need attention. It takes some patience though. While I do find that clients who receive Craniosacral Therapy sessions achieve results much faster than the other modalities that I offer, you still have to consider how long your body has taken to get to where it is. The history of injury and illness, the stressors and how they’ve impacted your nervous system. It can take some time for those to unwind and ease…but they always do. It is completely different when working with babies and children, as they don’t have that same history, as teens and adults do. Their little bodies seek immediate relief to issues that have been with them for a very short time. A little ones session is markedly different to that of an adult. They still can realize amazing results. When was the last time that you truly stopped and listened in on what your body was telling you. Where exactly the pain is or where in your body you’re feeling anxiety or panic? How are you holding yourself (posturally) because of it? What repetitive movements need to be adjusted to provide some ease? Which methods of breathwork, stretching, rest and posture adjustment create a feeling of calm? When did you last listen and when did you last respond to what your body was saying it needed? Craniosacral Therapy can help.
