Yoga Snacks and Meditation

1/1/2023

When you think of Yoga practice or meditation or any self-care, do you feel like you have to have the time to do it? That it has to be done over an hour or more?

It is easy to become disheartened if you feel that you want to commit to stretching every day, but there is no point because you don't have an extra hour to give yourself. But who says it has to look like that?
Selfcare is what you create for you
What if you took your self care and broke it down into easily adaptable chunks? Do you have to do an hour of Yoga? No. If you only have 10 or 15 minutes then why not have a Yoga snack of 1 or 2 poses. Take the hour when you can but don't stress about it if all you have is 10 minutes.

The same with most selfcare activities. Can you spare an hour to sit on your meditation cushion and zone out? No. Why not take 3 to 5 minutes while sitting in the chair at your desk to just focus on breathing. Take the longer time when you can, but in the meantime gift yourself with short spurts of self care.
Self Care Rules?
I think that we become locked into supposed rules about how our selfcare should look or how it should be done, and often those rules just aren't realistic. Honestly, social media doesn't help because so many posts start with do this correctly, look like that picture, or you're  not doing it right if you don't...and on and on...who makes this stuff up? And why do we buy into it?

Yes, most of us do need to set aside more time than we do for our selfcare. I believe that if we practice having the snacks and discover just how good those snacks feel, then we'll be drawn to look at giving our selfcare more priority. What do you think?

I love this idea of self care snacks! I always feel better after a yin practise, and these bite size portions are a great way to visit and remind myself of this more often!
