Many, many years ago a good friend shared some of the medicine that her Grandfather, a shaman, had passed on to her for letting go of worries and stress. She has since passed away, but in the time that I knew her she was a friend and a mentor, who taught me about living on the earth holistically. She shared how to "be" in harmony with nature. A couple of days ago, as I walked by the river, memories of her sharing this powerful ritual of letting go returned, and I will share them here with you.

In a recent discussion amongst Holistic Practitioners the question was asked “Why do clients come to see you?” “Why do they come back?” After thinking about this I decided that a part of the reason was perhaps, the opportunity to take a “time out” for however long they were on my table. That for an hour or more they could rest in mind, body and spirit, not be “on” and not have to be “doing”. Instead for a short time they could just rest and be. Why do I get this impression? Because the thing I hear from you most often is “I have never felt so relaxed. Ever." Taking “time out” or resting your mind, body and spirit is a crucial part of physical, mental and emotional health. It does not have to be earned. Autumn reset? What does that even mean? I am going to challenge you to take a look at the way you shift from summer days to what tends to be, but doesn’t have to be, the more mundane routines of Autumn months. Summer days tend to be more carefree with school out, holidays happening, more hours of daylight and just an overall sense of greater freedom. As the shift to scheduled Autumn days takes place with returning to work, school, team sports, meetings… you have a choice to fall into your usual patterns, or to create a reset. Mindfulness
Clients have heard me say this often after their sessions with me, especially after Massage. The main reason behind this "after session" advice is that it extends the benefits of your session after you return home. But there's more...
Helping Body, Mind and Spirit make the transitions in selfcare through the seasons It takes some thought and planning, but you can make it easier. Shifting Self Care from Summer to Autumn Autumn often comes roaring in with the sun setting earlier, colder temperatures and often rain and wind. Yet this season is still a favourite for me, with the gorgeous colours of reds, oranges and yellows, and the crisp, fresh scents that permeate the air. My self-care routines do shift quite a lot for the Fall though, as I find myself spiraling inwards in both body and mind. |
