During a Yin Yoga session poses are held for a longer period of time in order to benefit, stretch and open the deeper muscles and fascia. Fascia alone needs a minimum of 90 to 120 seconds to begin to release during a stretch. Taking time to allow the fascia to stretch is essential to maintaining flexibility, range of motion and overall holistic well-being.
I had a lesson taught to me recently that encouraged me to practice what I teach. The experience showed me my own vulnerability and honestly, it wasn’t comfortable. Some months ago I received a Message Request on a business Facebook page, from a person who was seeking another Teresa regarding an upcoming High School reunion. I didn’t know the person messaging me and responded that the Teresa they were searching for wasn’t me. Apparently they didn't receive that message.
I think that one of the downsides to people feeling safe to share their journey towards holistic balance is Toxic Positivity. Ourselves or others can often feel uncomfortable with emotion, and so will downplay it in others, or we stuff it down in ourselves. Neither are healthy and that is not what this journey will be about. It's time to get honest with how you're feeling.
![]() The "sigh" is something I wait for, and eventually, in every holistic session, it comes. That is when I know that a client has given over to allowing the holistic session to work with them on all levels (mind, body and spirit) The human sigh, while often a spontaneous occurrence, conveys a wide range of emotions and has an abundance of holistically healthy benefits. Our breathe impacts our emotional and physical state and the sigh can encourage a state of balance.
Anxiety & Taking Care of You in the Moment ![]() Our mind/body connection is never more obvious than when we’re in a state of anxiety. Fear driven thoughts may bring forward a biochemical response in your body (fast pulse, dry mouth, nausea, shallow breathing, dizziness). Your mind views these symptoms as evidence that something is definitely wrong. Developing grounding and mindful movement “tricks” may help to reduce anxiety and more quickly bring you to a physical and emotional state of calmness. Practicing some of these, while not in a state of anxiety, may help you to more quickly remember these tips when you feel anxiety coming on. |
