Healing Can Happen Through Relaxation The comment I hear most often from clients, at the end of a Craniosacral Therapy session or Reiki session, is that they have never before felt so deeply and completely relaxed. There is something in the quiet of those two Holistic therapies that nurtures you, mind, body and soul.

What is considered healthy, or not, seems to be linked to fads that come and go. I've watched through the years as clients have embraced different ideas and diets based on what is current, only to spiral when they haven't worked. Alternatively, I have seen those clients who take the time to tune in to and listen to their bodies, and what "feels best for them", experience the most success with lifestyle changes. They are also the happiest and most content people that I know.
Reiki has so many benefits for new parents I'm not sure why it took this long for the penny to drop, after all I've been both a single mother and Reiki practitioner for years. However, today it dawned on me just how energy scattering it is to raise kids. Often during a Reiki session for a new parent I intuit their need for Chakra balancing during the session, today I had an "ah ha" moment. A single parent when my son turned 16 months, my experience comes from the mother role, however I suspect the same diffusion of energy happens to every parent. Something I hear from others, but also experience myself is the way in which misunderstanding, hurt and hard feelings come about through the lack of emotion when communicating through technology. When reading a text or other message we tend to interpret what we think the sender is expressing, but we do so through our own filter. That filter through which we see and hear others, is what we've developed through our past experiences in communicating with the world...but, is it true? One of my passions is gardening! I begin as soon as the weather is slightly warmer and keep going through to the first frost. Using all of those muscles definitely takes some extra selfcare! Some of the selfcare I practice, so that body pain doesn't grow, the garden does, include:
Following are some other helpful tips so that you enjoy your gardening season
Through 30+ years of practice in Massage Therapy and other holistic modalities I have specialized in holistic therapies for women's health. Not that it was intended, my practice has just evolved that way. Throughout the life of a woman she faces a myriad of physical, emotional and hormonal changes. (and no, this is not to say that men don’t as well). I've watched those changes over the years in my practice and am always in awe, not only in how each woman's individual body deals with them, but the strength each woman has in resolving emotional and physical challenges. February has been deemed "Heart" month and with a focus on healthy hearts, what I see advertised in mainstream media are two things: keeping your heart healthy and chocolate for your Valentine. Hmm...that conflicts just a little. The ads seem mainly directed at the physical health of the heart muscle, and I'm not disputing the importance of that, however, what about the mood, emotion and spirit of your heart? OK. If you're a dedicated people pleaser then these tips are likely not for you, however, if you have the understanding that your self preservation means you have more energy and presence to give to yourself and others then read on... Why is the holiday season so energetically draining? It may be the extra foods, lack of sleep and worries over spending (see Surviving the Holidays Part 1) but perhaps its something closer to your soul. Putting yourself "out there" whether entertaining or visiting takes a lot of mental and physical energy...AND...when you are out there in the midst of family, friends or shopping at the mall, already feeling drained, you can be a magnet for the negativity, fear or anger energy that others are emitting. So what can you do to take care of you? You'll need about 10 minutes, so brew a cup of tea or coffee, find a quiet space, take out a pen and pencil and let's get to this. I'll admit that some of these suggestions are not going to be easy for some of you the first few times you put them into place but see if you can give 1 or 2 a try. Life gifted me with a precious child 41+ years ago. (yes, we both gasp a little at that). I think until you experience parenting (whether human or fur baby) there is nothing you can even remotely compare it to and the amazing experience that it is. It impacts every aspect of your life. With Mother's Day just around the corner, I find myself as I have for many years, reflecting on having been a parent and thought I would share some of the Mother's Day memories and gifts my son shared with me. Despite the title focusing on stretches for gardeners, this clip has really great gentle stretches for most weekend warrior activities. What I like is the emphasis to work with YOUR body and where it is now in it's ability and flexibility, and not to push to a point of pain. I would recommend these stretches! |
