February has been deemed "Heart" month and with a focus on healthy hearts, what I see advertised in mainstream media are two things: keeping your heart healthy and chocolate for your Valentine. Hmm...that conflicts just a little. The ads seem mainly directed at the physical health of the heart muscle, and I'm not disputing the importance of that, however, what about the mood, emotion and spirit of your heart?

Something simple that you can create at home for yourself. An Essential Oil blend to soothe muscles!
So you have practiced great body mechanics, or maybe not (see part one here) and the job is complete (for now). Looking after those hard working muscles needs your full attention, now, to avoid becoming stiff and sore or experiencing muscle spasms later. Nurturing the muscles needs to carry on for a few days and not just the day that you worked them hard. Here are the ideal ways to nurture yours; The exertion, cold weather, and slippery surfaces snow shovelers face are a hazardous combination for your muscles. It's an activity we don't often do and it is very labour intensive. Back, neck and shoulders are easily overstrained and that can be painful. Prevention and after care are essential in avoiding injury to your muscles, joints, discs, ligaments and tendons. So take a few minutes... Upcoming holidays have you stressed out? It's not unusual. Actually we all feel somewhat stressed over them...good and bad stress, but stress none-the-less Whether we stress about watching what we eat versus enjoying ourselves, getting enough sleep versus keeping the party going, blowing the budget versus buying something really special, feeling like a scrooge because we really can't stand the holidays...the list goes on and I'm sure you have many more you could add. A little pre-planning, and I mean right now, can go a long way to not only surviving but really enjoying a holistic holiday season (yes, even for the grinches!). Let's put some plans into action together! May sound strange…but there is a direct connection. With over 7,000 nerve endings in our feet, our entire body is constantly stimulated and circulation increased when we walk barefoot. This includes the stimulation of the glands that release all of those feel good hormones. Wonder why we feel so much better in the summer? It’s not just the sunshine. Cold and flu season seems to be coming around the corner again. There are so many wonderful, natural remedies to build your immune system and keep the bugs at bay, or to ease your symptoms more quickly, however, Massage is not one of them. Often people think that the aches and pains of a bad cold or flu will feel better after having a massage. What actually happens can make you feel worse What is Plantar Faciitis? A pain in the bottom of the heel that is becoming more of a problem for many people! For those dealing with this condition it’s usual to experience sharp pain first thing in the morning (which may or may not improve through the day) and again in the evening after resting. If you study the structure of the foot and it’s biomechanics it all makes sense. There is a band called the plantar fascia that runs from the ball of the foot to the heel. This band doesn’t stretch easily and when it is forced beyond it’s “elastic limits” it can tear at it’s weakest insertion point, the heel bone. There are many sites with information about Plantar Fasciitis and what causes it…let’s explore what can be done to help heal it. (this is assuming that you have a correct diagnosis) |
