Calgary Craniosacral TherapyCraniosacral Therapy (also called CST, or cranial osteopathy), is a gentle, non-invasive technique that encourages wellness for your whole being.
A Craniosacral Therapist is trained to detect any disturbances in the Craniosacral System's rhythm, which helps to pinpoint areas of dysfunction.
The therapist will then focus on two goals: to encourage the Nervous System to calm, and to also gently offer assistance in releasing tension, restriction, adhesions, scar tissue or other dysfunctions. |

“The practice of Craniosacral is an art as well as a science. Effectiveness depends upon the sensitivity of practitioners and their capacity to listen intimately to what the craniosacral pulse is saying, and then to respond intuitively - based on knowledge, experience and training. The basic method involves coaxing the craniosacral system to find its own way back to regular functioning.” Upledger

Craniosacral Therapy is based on the understanding that the continuous, rhythmic and subtle movements of the cranial bones is in response to the flow and fluctuations of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord. (a rhythm of about 6 to 12 cycles per minute).
This rhythm of movement is separate to the rhythm of respiration (breathing) and the cardiovascular system (heart beat/pulse), and extends out to the entire body in a response to fluid pressure changes around the Central Nervous System.
The Fascia (a sheet of connective tissue that covers the entire human body, organs, joints, muscles and tissues) is affected by this continuous movement. The loss or reduction of fascial mobility in any specific area is a helpful aid in pinpointing the location which is causing the lack of mobility.

- While having Craniosacral Therapy for specific injuries or conditions it is recommended not to have other therapies in between your sessions. This is so that the tissues continue to respond to what’s happened during your Craniosacral treatment.
- Come to your session well hydrated and bring water with you. If you become thirsty during your session it’s good to take a break and drink some water.

Teresa has provided Craniosacral Therapy sessions for me on many occasions, addressing both mind and body issues I have brought to the table. Most recently, I was struggling with an Acute Stress Disorder in reaction to a traumatic event, while also suffering painful, stiff neck and shoulders as a result of tension. Teresa was extremely thorough and caring, taking the time to make sure we addressed each area, and the results were incredible. Not only did my neck and shoulders release, but I experienced pain and tension relief throughout the body, especially the back, neck, and facial areas. I was also able to process the trauma through the Craniosacral Therapy session, and have benefited from the reduction of stress that this session brought forth. Teresa is also hands down the best Massage Practitioner I have ever visited and I would highly recommend everyone try at least one session- you will be hooked! ~ Monique |
