![]() Cold and flu season seems to be coming around the corner again. There are so many wonderful, natural remedies to build your immune system and keep the bugs at bay, or to ease your symptoms more quickly, however, Massage is not one of them. Often people think that the aches and pains of a bad cold or flu will feel better after having a massage. What actually happens can make you feel worse! Massage can encourage that virus already reeking havoc on your body, to move and spread, and in that, making your illness worse, rather than better. Not only do you feel worse, it is likely to take a little longer for your body to beat that bug. If you think that a muscle spasm hurts, imagine how painful it will feel if you give that muscle a "cold". You may wish to consider too, what happens if the virus is passed along to your practitioner and the other clients that she sees. For elderly clients and those undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy, that virus is likely to make them much sicker, or can be fatal if their immune system is suppressed enough. What are some better treatments? All of those age old tips about getting plenty of rest, drinking lots of fluids and babying yourself until you are better. Essential oils such as Rosemary and Eucalyptus, Hot Honey & Lemon drinks, extra Vitamin C... What is the best treatment? Take steps to build your immune system so that your body is more resistant to viruses. Activities such as eating a really well-balanced diet, getting exercise and regular out door time, looking for ways to keep your stress levels lowered (now that is something Massage is good for!), laughter, ensuring you keep your body hydrated... Wishing you healthy and happy months ahead! |
